~This Week's Recap~
Hermon Town Council Meeting Recap for September 12, 2024
Hermon Town Council Unanimously Votes To Ban Solar Farms
Future Solar Farms/Large Scale Solar Energy Systems are banned in Hermon.
Personal Scale Solar Energy Systems are allowed in Hermon.
Personal Scale Solar Energy Systems in residential zones are limited to 1,200 square feet.
The Town’s Solar Energy Ordinance only allows for personal use solar. The primary use of Personal Scale Solar Energy Systems-Major and Personal Scale Solar Energy Systems-Minor must be used to reduce onsite consumption of utility power or fuels. The Solar Ordinance limits the size of personal scale solar energy systems, outlines the approval process, outlines public safety measures, mitigates financial risk to the town, and provides a timeline and steps for decommission.
Personal Scale Solar Energy Systems-Minor in residential zones are limited to1,200 square feet and can be roof mounted or ground mounted.
Personal Scale Solar Energy Systems-Major are limited to a maximum size of .5 acre and can be roof mounted, wall mounted, or ground mounted. Personal Scale Solar Energy Systems-Major must receive planning board approval. Personal Scale Solar Energy Systems-Major ground units are limited to Hermon's Agriculture/Forestry and Industrial districts (prohibited from Hermon's residential, village commercial, and commercial districts).
Large Scale Solar Energy Systems/Solar Farms are prohibited. Large Scale Solar Energy Systems/Solar Farms are not designed for personal use but are designed solely to produce electricity and distribute the electricity through power lines to grid stations and then to homes.
Garbage Pick-Up Goes Automated
Curb side pickup will be changing to an automated pickup system beginning the week of October 14, 2024. The town will be staying with Casella and pickup days will remain Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. Casella offers two garbage can sizes. One large garbage can will be free to residents. The large garbage can is able to hold 96-gallons. Residents will be able to purchase additional garbage cans. A Casella representative was present to answer questions at the September town meeting. More information for automated pickup can be found here.
Finally, all of you, have unity of mind, sympathy, brotherly love, a tender heart, and a humble mind. Do not repay evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary, bless, for to this you were called, that you may obtain a blessing. For “Whoever desires to love life and see good days, let him keep his tongue from evil and his lips from speaking deceit; let him turn away from evil and do good; let him seek peace and pursue it. For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and his ears are open to their prayer. But the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.” 1 Peter 3:8-12 ESV
